Golf Tips For Your First Time golfing in St. George

1. Make sure you’ve got everything you need

Before you go to the golf course check out if you got everything you need. If you have your own equipment make sure you have golf balls, a glove, tees, and comfortable clothes. But if you need to rent the equipment don’t forget to ask the resort manager where you can find the best rentals.

2. Start small

If you are a beginner we recommend you start on a par 3 or “executive” course before you try an 18-hole course.

3. Choose the right golf course

The best way to begin golfing is to choose a good course. There’ll be plenty of time to test yourself, but to start you can choose an option like Sky Mountain Golf Course because this course is perfect for all skill levels.

4. Take care of the course

One of the best things about golf courses in Southern Utah are their beautiful landscapes. Pay attention to clubhouse rules about where you can and cannot drive the golf carts. And, if you take a divot, please be sure to repair

5. Don’t move your ball

Unless you’re on a putting green, don’t move your ball for any reason. Play it as it lies unless it’s interfered with by an obstruction or a big object.

6. Stretch the right way

Even if you think you won’t need to make a lot of effort as in other sports, it’s important to stretch the right way before you play. Save long-hold stretches for after the round or at night. And before the round, do dynamic stretches that prep your muscles for the swing.

7. Use sunblock

Southern Utah is warm year-round and typically has over 300 sunny days per year. Don’t forget to apply sunblock 30 minutes before your round and again at the turn, be sure you are protected to enjoy this adventure to the fullest.

8. For beginners, go with sneakers, not golf shoes

If it’s your first time playing golf, hold off on purchasing golf shoes until you become serious about it! Don’t worry about wearing your sneakers, you’ll be able to use them on and off the golf course.
